Thousands of Gamers Shielded from Each Other and External Intervention

May 31, 2019 (AUSTIN, TX) – Netgate®, the leading provider of open-source secure networking solutions, today announced it has upgraded DreamHack’s IT infrastructure to offer more powerful pfSense secure networking capabilities. DreamHack specializes in eSports tournaments and other gaming conventions, and is recognized by the Guinness Book of Records and Twin Galaxies as both the world’s largest LAN party and computer festival with the world’s fastest Internet connection, and the most generated traffic. 20,000-25,000 thousand gamers will converge on the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center for a three-day festival around all things gaming this week in Dallas, Texas from May 28 - June 3, 2019.

Netgate SG-3100, XG-7100, and XG-1541 appliances - the latter with 10Gbps network cards - equipped with pfSense software are deployed at internal and external gateway locations ensuring that gaming traffic - which can be challenging in a largely concentrated network of high-traffic users dependent on low latency for competitive performance - flows smoothly and securely.

“We are proud to have Netgate appliances with pfSense software be a significant part of DreamHack’s network backbone and its overall security,” said Jamie Thompson, Netgate CEO. “Our solutions are used in every vertical and on every continent, but a gaming convention is a particularly robust test of product performance, stability, and speed of deployment.”

“DreamHack is a super exciting event and gets a lot of headline coverage in the gaming world - a world that is no stranger to bright individuals with a flare for adventure,” said Dreamhack co-CEO Marcus Lindmark. “We want to make sure all participants ’stay in their swim lanes’ and that an outside attack doesn’t occur. Netgate does a great job of equipping us to do exactly that.”
