Product Lifecycle Policy
Netgate products are designed to provide years of protection for personal, commercial and Enterprise networks. The Product Lifecycle allows us to rapidly incorporate newer technologies.
Hardware General Availability
A Netgate hardware appliance is declared to be in General Availability (GA) status once all commercialization activities have been completed in accordance with a Netgate product launch. Typical commercialization activities include compliance testing, export certification, manufacturing and supply chain readiness, pricing, documentation, etc. A hardware product will remain in GA status until an End of Sale event occurs.
Hardware End of Sale (EOS)
With any hardware product, there comes a time when product components are obsoleted by component manufacturers, or newer components become available at superior price / performance points, thus warranting the initiation of a product end of life process.
Netgate makes every effort to provide reasonable notice to partners and direct buyers alike when an end of sale (EOS) date is foreseen. In general we strive for a minimum 30 day advance notice of an EOS date. However, there are times when events beyond our control occur with little warning, which subsequently compresses the time between announcement and actual EOS.
For more information on products for which EOS had been declared, please visit our End of Sales Products table.
Once hardware EOS occurs, no further purchases of that hardware product can be made. Software versions made available post the hardware EOS date can still be run and will be covered by a Netgate support subscription, unless a limitation preventing proper operation arises in Netgate testing.
Hardware End of Life (EOL)
End of Life (EOL) will typically occur within 1-3 years after the EOS date. Exceptions to this policy may occur due to events outside of Netgate’s control.
