Community Engagement and Communications Specialist

Netgate is looking for a Community Engagement and Communications Specialist to draft and oversee the creation of media releases and email newsletters, forge relationships with journalists and key influencers, track media coverage, and manage both proactive and reactive external campaigns. You will be the point person for implementation of Netgate’s promotional and relationship-building email campaigns, be responsible for identifying and executing media coverage opportunities, and work together with the Engineering and Sales teams to create and attend industry events and conferences. This role will work closely with all members of the marketing team, as well as sales.

Community Engagement and Communications Specialist

Location: Austin, TX 

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Has strong knowledge of router, firewall and VPN markets, competitors and premises / cloud solution models
  • Has experience with public relations, email marketing, lead nurturing, marketing automation, and public relations and email analytics
  • Is able to stay current on email marketing best practices, always ready to present new ideas to the rest of the marketing team
  • Has excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Is able to convert approved copy into market-ready content, i.e., take written-form marketing content and package it into attractive, compelling emails
  • Is highly organized, detail-oriented, and committed to ensuring operational excellence. Very attentive to details and able to proof and check their own work. 
  • Has the ability to work collaboratively with the marketing, creative, and development teams
  • Is ready and willing to jump in, learn, and get stuff done
  • Is strongly creative but also very metrics driven – understands that in the end it’s the results that matter
  • Has a passion for building, implementing and measuring new systems, processes, and campaigns
  • Has strong experience with Hubspot and/or Shopify is ideal (domain experience through similar email automation and e-commerce systems is acceptable)

Impact You Will Have

As our Community Engagement and Communications Specialist, you will:

  • Develop and nurture relationships with key journalists covering network technology, network security, and the business world
  • Create content for press releases, bylined articles, and speaking engagements
  • Author monthly and quarterly newsletters highlighting company and industry news
  • Generate email campaigns for industry, brand, and customer segments
  • Report on short-term and long-term email performance and optimize strategy to increase performance
  • Maintain and expand the email marketing process, procedures, and guidelines, monitoring proper usage, and incorporating new features and functionalities 
  • Manage our relationship with G2 and own and drive review generation campaigns
  • Keep current on industry trends, issues, and news
  • Assist with planning and logistics for brand-focused events, including working with vendors, overlapping timelines, and following internal workflows to collaboratively deliver high-quality events and experiences that align to company goals

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in PR, communications, marketing, or a similar role
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, MIS, Business Administration or equivalent desirable
  • Working familiarity with networking and security technologies, industry structure, buyer personas, and buyer journeys is highly desirable
  • Solid interpersonal skills including verbal/written communication, listening, and ‘selling’ with high attention to detail
  • Highly self-motivated contributor who works well as an individual and within a team environment
  • Proven organizing skills; capacity to manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously, work in cross-functional teams and communicate with all levels of management
  • Solid strategic, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Enjoys a fast-paced environment and works well under tight deadlines
