First TNSR-based Application available as an Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

November 27, 2017 (AUSTIN, TX) – Netgate, the open-source secure networking company, today announced the availability of TNSR-based Amazon Transit VPC on AWS Marketplace. Transit VPC, built by Solutions Architects at Amazon Web Services (AWS), allows AWS customers to easily provision and interconnect their Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) – geographically dispersed and/or running in separate AWS accounts – from a central VPC. This advancement simplifies private cloud deployment and minimizes the number of connections requiring set up and management. Because it is implemented virtually, no physical network equipment or physical presence in a colocation transit hub is required.

TNSR™, Netgate’s next generation Firewall/VPN/Routing platform based on FD.io’s Vector Packet Processing (VPP), provides high bandwidth VPC interconnection and simple management through a RESTful API, which integrates to virtually any cloud orchestration management solution. Customers benefit by having a high-performance, cost-effective, open-management alternative to Transit VPC vendor proprietary solutions.

Netgate is the provider of pfSense®, one of world’s most trusted open-source firewalls, with an installed base of over one million active instances. Through TNSR, the company is extending its open-source leadership and expertise into high-performance software firewall/VPN/router solutions – capable of delivering compelling value at a fraction of the cost of proprietary solutions.

“TNSR leverages VPP, DPDK, RESTCONF, Intel QuickAssist and other open-source technologies to deliver a high-performance firewall, VPN and routing solution that overcomes the limitations of kernel-based packet processing solutions,” said Jim Thompson, CTO of Netgate. “We now have the ability to support cloud-based applications like Transit VPC with essentially no packet processing or throughput limits, even if encrypted – which is obviously central to VPN solutions – and with open orchestration management. Customers looking to move key business applications to AWS just got one more piece of the network function virtualization puzzle fulfilled by a highly scalable, easy to manage, cost-effective AMI option.”

Netgate’s TNSR-based Transit VPC AMI is planned for availability on AWS Marketplace and AWS Marketplace for AWS GovCloud (US) by early January 2018. To learn more, please visit Netgate.
