Senior Systems Administrator
Location: Austin, TX
The successful candidate will be hands-on and responsible for building, managing, operating, and continuously improving systems, disaster recovery, storage, database, and network infrastructure supporting Netgate’s customer facing applications, back-office, engineering and dev-ops in a 24/7 environment, focusing on architecting, building, deploying and stabilizing code, services, systems, and tools.
You will also drive standardization and service-focused instrumentation, provides subject matter expertise, resolves break/fix scenarios, and engage with broader teams as necessary to achieve continuous improvement. You will also contribute to command and control related activities focused on restoration of complex outages and may participate on 24/7 on-call rotation.
The integration knowledge of business and functional priorities is a must. The successful candidate will acts as a key contributor in a complex and crucial environment and may lead teams or projects and shares expertise.
This position will be building processes, procedure, standards and best practices. You will identify and deploy various solutions to include batch and configuration systems, enterprise-wide asset management systems, standards for video and teleconferencing, standardization of internal tools, management of some security projects such as single sign on and ID management.
This role requires exceptional communication skills as you will be dealing with people from all areas of the company.
Plan, coordinate and execute on software and hardware installation, configuration, maintenance and upgrades supporting Linux/Unix, MAC and PC clients.
Provide VMware vSphere administration support to include testing, troubleshooting, planning, deployment and updating using vSphere.
Monitor performance throughout the core infrastructure and applying corrective action to ensure optimal performance.
Must be hands-on. Duties include everything from pulling wires to deep level dives into networking issues.
Write and maintain systems, infrastructure, procedural and process documentation.
Provide technical assistance by responding to inquiries from others regarding errors, problems, or questions about software, hardware, systems and infrastructure.
Use established methodologies and documented procedures to perform assigned tasks and keeping work and data center environments clean, secure and well-maintained.
Must be customer service oriented and proactive in anticipating and resolving problems while maximizing efficient use of available IT resources.
Manage work to meet milestones in accordance with the project plan, keeping management and project managers informed of issues and status.
Recommend and evaluate new and more effective approaches to system administration, including procedural changes, future hardware / software needs and tools to enhance productivity.
Produce high quality work results with a sense of urgency while maintaining a high level of focus on detail, exactness, and completeness.
Use excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills along with a patient, positive, and customer-friendly attitude within a team environment.
Teach and coach others to enhance their technical skills, troubleshooting techniques and system administrator practices.
Lead and provide input to the development and establishment of policies and objectives consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient operations to meet business requirements.
Perform On Call responsibilities as-needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, PBX systems with hands-on experience is a must.
Experience in operational build-outs and multi-site environments.
Ability to develop automated/scripted procedures for commonly executed tasks.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
Adhere to change management and documentation policies.
Able to execute assigned tasks using ITIL and/or established best practices.
Some combination of SOC2, SOX, PCI, Hi-Trust, etc.
Virtual Desktop Technology (ESXi).
Database management (MySQL, Microsoft SQL).
Common storage technology and platforms.
Mobile device management, Endpoint security platforms and some experience deploying Social Enterprise platforms and technology.
Working knowledge of or experience with NGNIX.
Experience knowledge of various technologies such as DNS, Redmine, ZFS, SALT, FreeBSD, Ubuntu, CentOS LDAP, SSO, git, network redundancy, redis, ruby, mysql/postgres.
Skilled in some scripting language.
